Close to Thiseio and the Acropolis but safely removed from their tourist traps, Petralona blends old-school charm, artistic vibes and boho haunts. Like many parts of the downtown, this too, seems kind of disorganized and chaotic, with a haphazard mix of different architectural styles and lots of graffiti. But then again this is where its allure lays – in true Athenian style. Amid the whole scruffy setting, there are alternative-chic joints – from traditional taverns with a twist, to experimental places featuring theatre and gigs, Thai and French restaurants and trend-setting bars. Launched by a swarm of young creatives who've recently relocated to the area, these eye-catching spots are responsible for the area's renaissance - Petralona is often dubbed the New Gazi.
